As you probably know, Tom Gordon has had to step down from the above role because of pressure of work that takes him away from this country. Therefore, the Committee are looking for a replacement for this position asap.
The role of Deputy Chairman involves supporting the Chairman and Committee in their duties and decisions, opening meetings on occasions, and learning the ropes for when ‘deputy’ gets dropped from the title… There are many enjoyable aspects such as helping choose the programme for the next season, coming up with ideas for Club events, and working with the Assistant Secretary and Assistant Competitions Secretary for when the ‘Shadow Cabinet’ takes over!
So what is in store for you next May/September? The main elements are: chairing the Committee meetings; ensuring along with the Secretary that the hall is opened and ready every Club evening; opening and closing each Club session. Ensuring that speakers, judges, and prospective new members, are looked after, and made to feel welcome. What is also very important is to listen to our Members and try and ensure that their needs are met.
There are also other duties, and if you would like to know anything more about the role of Deputy Chairman, or would like to be considered for this position, please ask any member of the current Committee.
I had a very short run up to being Chair/man/woman/person, but I have had such great support not only from the current Committee, but also from past Committee Members and from the Members themselves. Prior to this I felt Marlow CC was a friendly club, but I didn’t realise how friendly until I joined the Committee. It is great to be a part of it.
