Last night I was describing the steps needed to calibrate your monitor to help in the production of prints that look like the image on the screen. One of the critical settings for this is the monitor brightness, and this setting is not covered by most ‘calibrators’. It is quite difficult to get right and to make matters worse, the default settings on most monitors seem to be way too bright, resulting in prints that are too dark.
I was advocating a method using the light meter that is built into any camera as an aid to setting monitor brightness.
