Upcoming Competition – Message from Competitions secretary – Mike Jones

Upcoming Competition

Our next competition is on Tuesday 29th November.
It is a themed competition and the theme is ‘Pin Sharp’. I would encourage everyone to be as creative as possible with the theme. At least some area of the image should be sharp and hopefully the sharpness should contribute to the impact of the image (perhaps in contrast to other areas of the frame that are deliberately not sharp).

The closing date for entries is midnight on Wednesday 23rd, and I will acknowledge entries on the 24th.
As usual, you can enter up to two Prints and up to two PDIs.

Please note that images that have previously been entered in a competition cannot be re-submitted in ‘Ordinary’ competitions such as this.

To enter PDIs, please submit them by email to [email protected].
Details of the image size and file format can be found on the website. (But see below for a note regarding re-sizing.)

To enter Prints, let me know the titles of the pictures you want to enter by email at [email protected].
Please also enclose a thumbnail (any size) of the image to help us identify it.
Then bring along the prints on the night.

They should be mounted on board and conform to the following:
Minimum mount size – 17.5 cm x 12.5 cm or 218.75 cm2
Maximum mount size – 50 cm x 40 cm or 2000 cm2
The member’s name and title or description must be clearly shown at the top of the reverse side of the mount. Members’ names are not permitted on the front of the print.

I would like to encourage everyone to enter. If you are a new member and are unsure about the process, please feel free to ask me or any member of the committee for help. It is a very straightforward.

Guidance for re-sizing jpg images.

The maxim image size that our projector can display is 1400 pixels wide and 1050 pixels high.
Therefore images must not exceed either of these dimensions, as they will not project.
For windows users, a really simple tool for resizing is the “Image Resizer”, which can be downloaded for free from this source… http://www.bricelam.net/ImageResizer

Simply right-mouse-click on the image to be resized.
Select “Resize pictures”
Complete the dialogue box as shown below…
This will generate a re-sized version of the image which is perfectly sized for a competition.

Here’s looking forward to all your competition entries!
Kind regards
Mike Jones
