This event is a privilege to attend. To be in the presence of so many people who played an active part in the defence of our country is not something that happens every day. One of the people I enjoyed talking to was Mr Denis Hope, Infantry, Royal Irish Fusiliers. I should have used a photo of his many medals in the Adornment competition last season. He was also Standard Bearer, and has been made a Knights Templar, not a recognition that is dished out lightly.
Another person who was there, I spoke with at length last year. That is Jean Valentine (her maiden name) who worked at Bletchley Park. She was a Bombe machine operator, and now serves as a guide at Bletchley.
All the people attending were of a similar standing. That is what made it so special.
